Imperial Palace Plaza Dainan-Kou (Masashige Kusunoki) statue@
Masashige Kusunoki is the famous general who rendered the Emperor loyalty
in the 14th century. Political real power was usurped by samurais for about
140 years at the time. Emperor Godaigo beat the Kamakura shogunate and
the government which the Emperor sanctioned was made. However, Emperor
Godaigo ignored the samurais which had distinguished services in the Kamakura
shogunate ruin and overemphasized court nobles. The rebellion by the samurais
who respected Takauji Ashikaga with the leader occurred. At this time,
Kusunoki commanded a small number of soldier, challenged the Ashikaga army
to fighting, and accomplished the heroic death in battle in Minatogawa. |
